Mann & Partners, LLP in the Community
Each year, the firm prioritizes charitable donations and participation
in community and charitable events. Our lawyers also volunteer
with a variety of community organizations as a way to share our
knowledge and skills.
Below are some of the community organizations and events with
which our firm and our lawyers are involved:
Friends of Hospice Ottawa (FOHO) is an organization committed
to supporting, educating and empowering those who are affected
by or caring for an individual with a life-threatening illness.
FOHO cares for people and helps them live life as fully as possible.
On May 6th, 2007 lawyers and staff at Mann & Partners participated
in the Hike for Hospice Palliative Care at Andrew Haydon Park.
Mann & Partners fundraised and donated thousands of dollars
to FOHO's hospice care programs.
In addition, lawyer Nigel McCready is a member of the Board of
Directors of Friends of Hospice Ottawa.
From 2004 to 2006, the "Mann Paddlers" team of staff
and lawyers competed against other Ottawa law firms in Canada's
largest dragonboat race festival, helping to raise funds for important
local charities.
Roger's House provides respite, end-of-life, transition to home
support and bereavement care for children, youth and their families
facing progressive life-limiting illnesses. On "Casual Fridays"
Mann & Partners staff and lawyers donate money to Roger's
House.
The Snowsuit Fund is an Ottawa-based charity that raises funds
for the purchase and distribution of snowsuits to needy children
in our community. On "Casual Fridays" Mann & Partners
staff and lawyers donate money to the Snowsuit Fund.
The OCMS is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to presenting
chamber music of the highest possible artistic standard and making
classical music accessible to everyone. Mann & Partners, LLP
has sponsored OCMS special events and has pledged donations to
the Concert Hall project.
Firm partner and lawyer Andrew Lister is a member and past-president
of the OCMS Board of Directors.
Mann & Partners is proud to support the GCTC's capital campaign
in support of the new Irving Greenberg Theatre Centre. We are
one of several local law firms to sponsor the bar at the centre
called "Call to the Bar". The GCTC is just up the street
from our offices, on Holland Avenue.
The Ottawa Chamber is an independent and non-partisan, member-driven
business organization providing leadership to enhance economic
prosperity and quality of life in the Ottawa area.
Capital Business Association is a group of business people who
gather on a regular basis to encourage new business, exchange
ideas and build friendships. Heather Austin-Skaret represents
Mann & Partners, LLP as a member of cBa.
Mann & Partners, LLP is pleased to sponsor the Capital Food
Blitz, organized by the Young Lawyers' Division of the OBA. The
Capital Food Blitz is a door-to-door food collection initiative
in Ottawa. Proceeds go to the Ottawa Food Bank.
Family Services à la famille Ottawa (FSFO) works with
individuals, communities, and families in all their forms, who
are in distress or at risk through counselling, education, and
advocacy. Mann & Partners, LLP lawyer Caspar van Baal is a
member of the Board of Directors of this organization.
Mann & Partners, LLP are Proud Partners of the LGX, held
annually at Jack Purcell Centre. The Xpo is a showcase of lesbian,
gay, bisexual and transgender-oriented community groups and businesses.
Mann & Partners, LLP is a proud member and supporter of Ottawa's
LGBT community.
For several years, Mann & Partners, LLP lawyers, including
most notably Ted Mann and Andrew Lister, have had acting roles
in the Annual Lawyers' Play, held each winter in Ottawa. The Lawyers'
Play raises funds for local charities and the GCTC.
Mann & Partners, LLP lawyers are all members of the CCLA.
Firm partner Heather Austin-Skaret co-chairs the East Region Solicitors
Conference Planning Committee.
Cherolyn Knapp is an executive member of the Young Lawyers' Division
(East) section of the Ontario Bar Association. The YLD organizes
educational, social and charitable events for lawyers in their
first ten years of practice.
