Our Approach

When we are named as Attorney for Property, we consider it a responsibility meriting standards of the highest degree.

We also assist Attorneys for Property in carrying out their responsibilities.

When we act as Attorney for Property, and when we assist Attorneys for Property, tasks we perform include the following:

  • Engage in supported decision-making with the Grantor of the Power of Attorney. Regularly meet and consult with the Grantor of the Power of Attorney i.e. the person who appointed the Attorney for Property
  • Consult with family members
  • Pay for utilities and subscriptions
  • Cancel subscriptions no longer required
  • Pay for personal care, including assistive mobility devices and home accessibility modifications, assisted living, nursing care, personal support workers, meal preparation, clothing, medications, groceries, transportation services and retirement living
  • Invest prudently
  • Meet regularly with a financial planner and accountant
  • File taxes
  • Apply for the Disability Tax Credit
  • Ensure receipt of social benefits
  • Review the Will and applicable trusts to ensure property is managed in keeping with the Grantor’s estate plan
