Colleen Hoey, Partner
I have been a member of Mann Lawyers’ civil litigation group since 2008. My areas of practice include employment, human rights, and general civil litigation.
As a lawyer who works with both employees and employers, I have an appreciation of the often competing perspectives that underlie many workplace disputes. This knowledge strengthens my ability to assist my clients at all stages of the employment relationship, whether it is drafting and evaluating employment contracts, severance packages, developing workplace polices or upon the purchase or sale of a business. I am experienced in representing both plaintiffs and defendants in wrongful dismissal, human rights, and harassment complaints, and have appeared before the Ontario Superior Court, the Federal Court, and various administrative Tribunals. I also handle a range of civil litigation files, including commercial contracts disputes and defending professional liability claims.
I am a member of both the Ontario and Quebec bars. I obtained both my civil and common law degrees from McGill University and, before that, earned a BA from the University of Guelph and a MA from Carleton University. Prior to pursuing my career in law, I worked for a number of national and international institutions including the United Nations in New York where my work involved initiatives to promote compliance with international law.
I enjoy taking part in some of the many opportunities available to get involved in the Ottawa community and I am currently the manager of a local minor hockey league team and a member of the Women`s Business Network. I am a former coach with the Ottawa Royals, have been a volunteer with Ride the Rideau and was a board member with Options Bytown. Outside of work, two key passions of mine are my family and white water canoeing—ideally in a canoe that is fully intact.
If I can be of assistance with an employment, human rights or other litigation issue, please feel free to contact me by email or by phone.
